Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) System

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) is an advanced and highly efficient wastewater treatment technology used to remove suspended solids, oils, grease, and other floating contaminants from industrial effluent. DAF systems are widely used in industries such as oil & gas, food processing, dairy, pharmaceuticals, chemical plants, and manufacturing units.

This process plays a crucial role in improving water quality, reducing pollution load, and ensuring compliance with environmental discharge standards.

What is a DAF System?

A DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) system is a water treatment process that clarifies wastewater by removing solid particles through flotation. It works by dissolving air into water under pressure and then releasing it at atmospheric pressure inside a flotation tank. The released air forms microbubbles that attach to contaminants, causing them to float to the surface for easy removal.

How Dissolved Air Flotation Works

The DAF treatment process includes the following key stages:

1. Air Injection

Compressed air is injected into a portion of treated wastewater under high pressure, creating an air-saturated solution.

2. Pressure Release

The pressurized water is released into the flotation tank. As pressure drops, dissolved air forms microscopic bubbles.

3. Flotation Process

Tiny air bubbles attach to suspended solids, oil droplets, and grease particles, reducing their density and lifting them to the surface.

4. Skimming & Removal

A mechanical skimmer collects the floating sludge layer, leaving clarified water at the bottom of the tank.

The treated water can then be discharged safely or reused for industrial purposes.

Benefits of Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)

High Removal Efficiency

Effectively removes suspended solids (TSS), oil & grease (FOG), and other contaminants.

Compact & Space Saving Design

Requires less installation space compared to traditional sedimentation systems.

Low Sludge Generation

Produces drier sludge, reducing handling and disposal costs.

Energy Efficient Operation

Optimized systems ensure low operational costs.

Improved Water Quality

Delivers high-quality treated effluent suitable for reuse or safe discharge.
