What is Ultra Filtration (UF)?

Ultra Filtration is a pressure-driven membrane filtration process that uses a semi-permeable membrane with very fine pores. These pores are small enough to block harmful microorganisms and particles but allow water molecules and beneficial minerals to pass through.

UF is widely used in modern Water Treatment Plants (WTP) and as a pre-treatment for Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems.

How Does a UF System Work?

The Ultra Filtration process typically involves the following steps:

1. Raw Water Inlet
   Raw water from surface water, borewell, or wastewater sources enters the UF system.

2. Pressurized Filtration
   The water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane under pressure.

3. Separation Process

   • Clean filtered water (Permeate) passes through the membrane.

   • Contaminants and microorganisms are retained (Retentate).

4. Clean Water Output
   The permeate water is collected and supplied for use or further treatment.
